Principal’s Monthly Letter In October 2024

Principal’s Monthly Letter

2nd November, 2024

Dear colleagues,

After a brief National Day holiday break, again we have thrown ourselves back to school work. Thanks to our efforts, we have created more happiness for our children each day. In past month October, teaching and learning has advanced steadily and administrative management has been carried out gradually. The improved campus quality has brought new vitality. I believe that each progress embodies our wisdom and hard working. Now, let’s take a review on those wonderful moments.

TEACHING AND LEARNING:

Primary School: Pastoral care was progressed gradually alongside with tutorial assemblies and theme-based open days. The arrangement of long break time and mental health screening has helped students further understand themselves. In the field of teaching and learning, we emphasized the importance of class observation and evaluation, homework marking inspection, and teaching competition in various levels. G4 external assessment preparation and G5 transition program and sports day preparation have been carried out smoothly. Aside from CCA course selection and various subject competitions, we have also designed a series of diversified teaching activities such as reading month activities, project-based learning in math, and graded English PM guided reading in various subjects, including Chinese, math, and English,

Middle School: We continued to implement the regular behavior check, combining thematic meetings with individual talks and focusing on students’ mental health and emotional management through a series of activities such as the G8 Puberty Workshop and the G9 Cool Running Activity. In terms of teaching, we continued to refine our seminars and improve classroom quality and subject impact through accurate analysis of the results of assessment. The midterm teaching quality survey was conducted. At the same time, we also improved our training programs for new teachers, enhanced classroom optimization strategies, strengthened the system of lesson observation and evaluation, reinforced the standardized management, and continued to promote the idea of “the combination of academic performance and individual growth”. Besides, the Trivium Program Center held a successful parent-teacher conference to share the latest information and the academic growth and progress of our students with parents.

SCHOOL DEVELOPMENT:

The new round of “Around the World in 80 Days” integrated inquiry project has been successfully launched. The implementation of the CCA Extracurricular Extension Program has also made significant progress with the joint efforts of the teaching staff, including external teachers. 207 projects and related materials have been sorted out, the curriculum standards and evaluation system have been improved, the CCA curriculum database has been established, and the implementation of the lesson inspection system has been promoted. The real-time evaluation system will soon be online to promote regularized management and quality supervision of the courses.

STUDENTS DEVELOPMENT:

In October, we held the Primary School’s Social Practice Activity, the Elderly Festival Activity, the Youth Trekking Competition, the Principal’s Afternoon Tea, and started the 2025 Winter Camp Program. Zhang Xinyuan from the Trivium Program Center represented our school in the TEDxZizhuPark Youth Annual Conference. In addition, we held the ITSO Spelling Bee Group Competition, the East China Region Teacher Training Conference, and its award ceremony.

Congratulations to our teachers and students for the following achievements: students under the guidance of Yin Jin won several awards, including the first prize, in the CCF Non-professional Software Competency Certification (CSP J); students under the guidance of Xing Zhenzhen won individual and group prizes at the Yangtze River Delta Primary, Middle and Secondary School and Early Childhood Teachers and Students Pottery Education Achievement Exhibition; students under the guidance of Zhou Lili won the third prize of the group in the Minhang Sunshine Sports League radio gymnastics competition; students under the guidance of Zhu Lili won the third prize of Shanghai in the “Sunshine Angel Cup” student artwork exhibition. We would also like to congratulate the G3 students who won the second prize in the knowledge competition and the first prize in the internet knowledge competition in the “Shanghai Primary and Middle School Campus Emergency Rescue Knowledge and Skills Exhibition Activity”.

TEACHERS DEVELOPMENT:

Congratulations to the Teacher Development Center for winning a major project in Minhang District for the topic of cultivating innovative literacy among nine-year students based on the “Around the Earth in 80 Days” integrated inquiry project, which is the first major project in the district since the school was founded. In October, teachers have won a total of 13 awards and honors at all levels. In the Minhang District Teaching Competition (first round in Wujing), Wang Jingwen and Yan Wei won the first prize, Bu Lingxuan, Xu Leigang and Wang Yuxin won the second prize, and Chen Xinlian won the third prize. In addition, we would like to congratulate Yan Liwei, Yang Man, and Che Feifei for successfully completing the annual assessment of the district’s subject leaders and leading teachers. Han Jing of the English Department of the Junior High School delivered a successful demo lesson (district level) that was praised by experts and teachers who attended the conference.

SCHOOL QUALITY:

The operation team worked with all school divisions to optimize the service of our canteen. We organized a visit to the school canteen and the catering company for parents of new students to learn more about the catering process and to ensure that their children’s meals are healthy through the home-school collaboration. Junior high school boarding students conducted escape drills with the aim of further enhancing their awareness of residential safety precautions.

As the weather is getting cooler, we have also started the ordering of additional school uniforms, vision tests, and prevention of epidemic diseases in advance.

As the school relocation is imminent, and transformation is imperative, to ensure consistency of personnel and positions, and to promote lawful and compliant operation of the school, we will firmly continue to promote standardized management, optimize personnel management and financial procurement and budget management.

In addition to internal development, we also focused on presenting our school confidently to the outside world. In addition to the visit of the Board of Directors of ECNU Xiping Bilingual School, we once again welcomed an international delegation of nearly 100 students from the ECNU Global Education Center. Also, we held the Minhang District Private Schools’ CPC conference and training workshop for party cadres. In addition, the supervision and inspection of the school by the higher education authorities was successfully completed, with all parties speaking highly of the development of the school itself and of our teachers and students.

NEW CAMPUS:

All the buildings on our Lanxiang Lake campus have been structurally topped out and external curtain wall construction has begun; painting and decoration of the underground area has begun; installation of aluminum windows and doors, elevators, and other major components in the buildings has begun; and finishing work has begun on the bilingual primary and middle school teaching building, activity center, administrative complex, and canteen. Next, I will continue to share with you the construction progress of the new campus in the monthly principal’s letter, so let’s look forward to moving into the new campus!

The so-called learning is the process of talking with oneself, with others and with the world. And the meaning of learning is about constructing knowledge of oneself, of interpersonal relationships and of the outer world. Therefore, the meaning of our teaching is to help children build cognitive bonds with themselves, with others, and with the world. We believe that this is also our mission, so that children can become brave enough to use their own eyes to discover the beauty of the world!
