Principal’s Monthly Letter to Parents
06th October, 2025
Dear Parents,
With the deep trust of all our parents and the collective efforts of our faculty and staff, we successfully completed the relocation to our new campus during the summer. Looking back on this relocation journey, we have achieved these hard-won results through firm belief and efficient collaboration in July. By late August, the campus had successfully passed the inspection by the Education Bureau and opened to parents, with all necessary license updates completed as scheduled. In September, the students returned to school safely, and the entire school community witnessed a series of meaningful moments, including the inaugural opening ceremony, the joint flag-raising ceremony, and the parade viewing. The school year has since begun smoothly, with all operations running stably.
We sincerely thank our parents and dedicated staff whose unwavering support and collaborative efforts have enabled our 1,700 students and faculty at SHZS to start on this new educational chapter. Now, let’s reflect on our first month of achievement and progress at the new campus.
TEACHING AND LEARNING:
Primary School, student development is strengthened through moral education programs and a new advisory system. Teaching is innovated via dynamic assessments, interdisciplinary projects, and bilingual co-teaching in arts and PE.
Middle School, Nobel Laureate Professor Carlos Nobre inspires scientific vision, campus vibrancy shines through break-time activities, interdisciplinary “80-Day” project deepens cross-curricular thinking and inquiry skills, while English Day integrates language application with global citizenship. Refined lesson preparation system enables personalized teaching. Teaching observations and demonstration lessons establish a sustainable cycle for refining instructional quality.
STUDENTS DEVELOPMENT:
The summer Australia study tour broadens global perspectives, “Experts on Campus” series blend scientific and humanistic insights, English Campus Radio creates an immersive language environment. Our orchestra and choir debute the school anthem and the “80 Days” theme song, strengthening artistic literacy and cultural confidence. Following the successful collaboration with ECNU for “CAC & Trivium Cup ” English competition, we will now partner with its College of Music and College of Physical Education & Health, bringing professional resources to enhance teacher development and program innovation.
Congratulations to Xia Yufei, Zhang Minxiang, Yang Jinxi, Sun Zhouxiao, Chen Ruihan, Huang Jingshan, Tang Haocheng, Su Shenran and our school choir for their remarkable achievements in 2025 World Scholar’s Cup, National Youth Dart Championship and the 14th World Peace Choral Festival. We look forward to witnessing more possibilities unfold as our students continue to explore and write their own stories of growth.
SCHOOL DEVELOPMENT:
With the dedicated efforts of all staff, we efficiently completed the relocation and preparation of the new campus, ensuring all facilities, environments, and safety measures are fully operational. We have also launched a new cultural identity: the updated school motto “Quest for Wisdom, Virtue for Life”, the new school anthem, and renewed school logo and uniforms, marking a step into a new phase of cultural awareness and connotative development.
In school management, we introduce the OKR (Objectives and Key Results) framework, supported by an OKR Work Manual, to strengthen institutional foundations. This integrates top-down strategic guidance with bottom-up innovative energy, ensuring focused development and efficient collaboration across departments.
In organizational structure, the newly established Quality Assurance Committee has built a comprehensive system covering ethics, teaching, and academic standards. Subject-based teaching inspections and feedback have been completed, forming a professional cycle of “standard-setting, process supervision, and reflective improvement ”.
In teaching and learning, we remain committed to “ holistic education with academic excellence”, enriching break-time outdoor activities, strengthening mental health and adolescence education, and optimizing ESL and international courses. Through balanced homework design and tiered instruction, we aim to achieve both quality and appropriateness in academic load. Social practice is further integrated with curriculum and a coherent 9-year admission guidance system is being built, home-school communication is also more transparent and responsive.
In curriculum development, we keep promoting the 9-year-through Curriculum, the SHZS Student Portrait, and Philosophy for Children, while enhancing CCA program which includes over 250 courses across three levels: interest-based, specialty-based, and school team-based. In the future, we will collect student interest in advance, and continually refine the course selection process to better match students’ needs.
In campus quality, following the student-centered approach, we continuously improve our facilities and campus culture. In dining services, new vendor Aiden offers dedicated management and shared staff-student meals. The new uniform series is fully stocked. School bus now provides door-to-door service, and route issues are being closely monitored by daily reflection. Boarding facilities have been fully upgraded, and house system is now active, building a supportive learning community through diverse activities. For daily transport, we are refining staggered release times and collaborating with local authorities to speed up the solutions.
Dear parents, we know that high-quality education depends on trust between home and school.
During Parents Opening Week, we received over 400 valuable suggestions covering safety, transport, facilities, and teaching. Each comment has been carefully reviewed and categorized. Based on urgency and importance, we have developed a phased improvement plan.
Since September, staff have conducted multiple reviews and upgrades to campus safety and facilities. Most concerns have been resolved. Items requiring longer-term coordination—such as road constructions—have been included in key work plans and will be advanced in cooperation with relevant departments. I sincerely apologize for any current inconveniences, and I do believe that true educational success stems from deep trust and close cooperation. Your ongoing understanding and support give us strength and help create a brighter environment for children.
Here I would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all parents who contributed ideas during campus construction; who volunteered in traffic support; who waited patiently during CCA course selection; who showed respect and trust in communication with our colleagues; and who offered understanding and assistance whenever there are challenges. As therefore, your presence makes our school more generous and inclusive; it gives children positive companionship each day; and it allows both school and students to become a source of pride for one another.
Let’s join together to face this coming new environment, the new changes, and the new journey of integration in 2025. Whilst the National Day and the Mid-Autumn Festival approach, I wish you good health, family happiness, and a joyful holiday!
